Champions Milan start at home – showdown on penultimate matchday?

On the weekend of 13 and 14 August, Serie A kicks off the 2022/23 season. For champions Milan, the opener is doable, but things could heat up at the end.

Udinese Calcio, twelfth-placed in pre-season, travel to San Siro when champions AC Milan kick off the new Serie A season on the weekend of 13 and 14 August – alongside La Liga.

The dethroned Inter will therefore start away from home, with the Nerazzurri taking on promoted Lecce on Matchday 1. Record champions Juventus start with a home match against Sassuolo, while Conference League winners AS Roma and coach José Mourinho visit Salernitana with 39-year-old Franck Ribery.

Already on matchday 5, the champions of the two previous years will meet for the first time, the first city duel between Milan and Inter. A big showdown for the next Scudetto could take place on the penultimate matchday, when the defending champions meet a possibly stronger Juve.
