Celtics News: Abdel Nader to Thunder for Rodney Purvis

Boston Celtics have agreed on a trade with Thunder that will take Abdel Nader to Oklahoma in exchange for Rodney Purvis. Nader struggled for game time last year, as Jayson Tatum shone for Celtics. Boston originally waived Nader but then was able to agree to the trade for Purvis, who they see as a better fit for the team.

Nader was G-League Rookie of the Year 2016/17

Nader played 48 games for Boston, averaging three points and 1.5 rebounds per game in his rookie year. He was also named the Rookie of the Year 2016-17 in the G-League at Maine Red Claws.

Purvis only just traded from Orlando Magic to Thunder on 20 July

Rodney Purvis just traded from Orlando to Thunder now to Boston

Purvis, the 6’4” guard, was traded from Orlando Magic to Thunder earlier this week after he made 16 appearances for Magic last season. Averaging six points per game, with 1.7 assists and 1.1 rebounds. He came into the NBA as an undrafted prospect in 2017 and was with Utah Jazz in the 2017 Summer League.

The trade ensures that Thunder’s roster remains at 13 players, two under the maximum 15 guaranteed contracts, so they can still add players in possible two-for-one trades involving their second-round picks.

If Thunder decides to keep hold of Nader, his $1,378,242m salary will become fully guaranteed if they’ve kept him on the roster after 1st August.
