Carmelo Anthony Could Be Heading to Miami

Carmelo Anthony has a big decision to make as his days with Oklahoma City could be drawing to an end after they gave him permission to talk to other teams. The 10-time All-Star will be welcome at several NBA teams but which would prove to be the best fit for him?

The Anthony trade rumours are heating up

This week, ESPN analyst Amin Elhassan talked up the idea of Anthony going to Miami Heat, despite Rockets having the better chance of getting to the NBA Finals. A move to the Heat would enable him to remain as the centrepiece in the team, a role he has done so well at Oklahoma City Thunder.

The possible trade to Atlanta Hawks has also been discussed, with them being one of the three teams that have the required cap space to bring him in. At 34, he is now past his peak years but he would bring a great deal of experience to the team that he selects, which would be perfect for blending with younger players like Trae Young.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Chicago Bulls have been mentioned as a possible destination, as they could contemplate trading Cristiano Felicio and Robin Lopez in exchange for Carmelo Anthony.

Heat and Houston the most likely destinations

The favourites to land Anthony look like the Heat and Houston, having both met with him for discussions earlier in the week. Last season Carmelo Anthony achieved a career-high 169 three-pointers, which shows that he still has a lot to offer in the NBA. Brooklyn Nets have also been talking to Oklahoma City to go through a potential deal for Anthony, with Jeremy Lin possibly going the other way.

Thunder will be keen to move on Anthony as he goes into the last year of his $28 million contract. They also have a huge $310 million payroll and tax bill to contend with, so we can expect to see an announcement on Anthony’s future soon, providing he can agree on a move.
