Canada’s women’s tennis team has won the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time. The Canadians beat Italy in the final in Seville
Canada was already 2-0 up after the two singles matches, so the final was decided early on. First, Marina Stakusic surprisingly won against Martina Trevisan 7:5, 6:3. Then Leylah Fernandez clearly prevailed against Jasmine Paolini 6:2, 6:3.
The German women’s tennis team had already been eliminated in the group stage in Seville. After defeats against Italy and France, it was not enough to reach the semi-finals.
