BVB talent Raschl to move to Fürth

The signing of Tobias Raschl was announced in Fürth on Sunday and is expected to be finalised on Monday. The 21-year-old is under contract with Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.

Raschl was considered a promising talent at BVB for a long time, but was ultimately unable to fulfil the expectations placed in him due to injuries. The midfielder never really found his feet in the professional ranks, even though he had taken off at the beginning of his career.

Bundesliga debut in 2019 – and no further top flight action

In 2019, he captained Dortmund’s U19s to the German championship, followed by a professional contract in the same year and even a Bundesliga debut against Hoffenheim in 2020. In the 0:4 loss at Hoffenheim, he was substituted in the 65th minute – it was to remain his only Bundesliga appearance to date.

Under Marco Rose, Raschl was not a real alternative, and the fact that the midfielder has become a mainstay in the second team did not change that. He played 22 games for BVB II in the 3rd division this season, recording three goals and three assists.

Raschl’s contract expires in the summer, so a transfer would be manageable for the financially strapped cloverleaf. His transfer fee is likely to be in the lower six-figure range.

The player himself would have the chance to show himself in the highest German league in Fürth. He would benefit from the fact that he can play both as a six and as an eight. The man, who is regarded as a fine technician, would in any case expand the midfield options of Fürth coach Stefan Leitl.
