BVB honors biggest fan at WWE

The stars of Borussia Dortmund watch WWE in Oberhausen – and meet their biggest fan in the league behind the scenes

Special encounter between stars of the Bundesliga and the wrestling empire: ahead of the historic first major WWE event in Germany on Saturday, several Borussia Dortmund players paid a visit to the show fighting league.

In Oberhausen, captain Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Nico Schlotterbeck were among those who followed the tour, which will culminate in the Bash event in Berlin at the weekend. Backstage, they met German WWE stars Ludwig Kaiser and World Champion Gunther from Austria as well as their biggest fan in WWE: former champion Sheamus.

BVB stars present WWE star Sheamus with a gift

The 46-year-old Irishman – a Liverpool FC fan since childhood – has long had a soft spot for Dortmund, partly because of the BVB past of long-time Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp: “I’m particularly interested in Borussia Dortmund, because the man who now coaches my Liverpool FC was a coach there

Now Can – also a former Liverpool player – presented the noble fan with a personalized jersey. Sheamus – once also a partner of Tim Wiese in his WWE guest appearance – took the opportunity to reaffirm his appreciation for the club: “I really rooted for you in the Champions League final last year, you had a great season, I like your story. And I hate Real Madrid, I really do,” Sheamus said at the jersey handover, shared by WWE via social media.

On Saturday, the big WWE event takes place at Berlin’s Uber Arena, with Gunther facing Randy Orton and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes facing Kevin Owens in the main matches.
