The quintet of iconic goalkeepers in EA SPORTS FC 25 is getting a world champion addition. A screenshot from the developer confirms the new addition
Gianluigi Buffon was an active footballer for 28 years. The now 42-year-old played almost 1,000 games, and the goalkeeper could also be seen virtually on the pitch until FIFA 2023. After his return to Parma Calcio, however, he fell off the grid for licensing reasons, due to the end of his career for the time being anyway
Developer confirms cover suggestion
However, this has now opened a new door – as a potential new icon in Football Ultimate Team. EA SPORTS is now fulfilling these fans’ wishes, as they have often requested on social media. Already hinted at by the Ultimate Edition cover, the developer confirmed the goalkeeper’s return to the game in a blog post
In the post, EA SPORTS presents the licenses for FC 25, and towards the end it talks about the faithfully reproduced players. Jude Bellingham, Aitana Bonmati, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Gianluigi Buffon are mentioned as keywords. The Italian can also be seen in a screenshot in which he forms a “Rush” team with his cover colleagues
Almost won everything there is to win
If the current iconic goalkeepers are also involved in the new part, the squad will be expanded to six members: Lev Yashin, Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Saar, Petr Czech, Iker Casillas and Buffon. With him, the current quintet will also have a second world champion, as only Casillas has previously won the trophy
In 2006, he triumphed with the Squadra Azzurra, who defeated France on penalties in a memorable final. But Buffon also won title after title at national level. A small selection: Ten times Italian champion, seven times Italian cup winner. He also won the UEFA Cup in 1998/1999 with Parma Calcio, then still known as AC Parma. The only trophy Buffon, who was born in Carrara, was never able to win was the Handle Pot.
