Defending champion Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors have advanced to the second round of the playoffs. The Bucks won 116-100 against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night (local time), the Warriors 102-98 against the Denver Nuggets. Both teams went 4-1 in their series.
The best thrower of the evening was Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led the Bucks to a clear victory over Chicago with 33 points. Already in the first quarter Milwaukee was clearly ahead (34:18), Chicago did not come close after that. The Bulls were missing Zach LaVine and Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan only scored eleven points.
The Bucks will now face the Boston Celtics with Daniel Theis in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Bucks star Khris Middleton will miss at least Game 1 and 2 of the upcoming series due to an ACL injury in his knee.
The Warriors, who trailed for a long time against the Nuggets, had a much harder time than the Bucks in game five of their series. But with a strong final quarter (32:20), Golden State was able to turn the game around – also because Nikola Jokic had foul problems. The Serb nevertheless scored 30 points, 19 rebounds and eight assists, while Stephen Curry was the Warriors’ best scorer with 30 points. Golden State is the first team in the Western Conference to reach the second round.
