John Bryant moves within the BBL: The centre’s contract in Gießen has been terminated, now the former MVP is going to hunt for points for the MBC.
Gießen and veteran Bryant will go their separate ways in future. The club and the player have agreed on an immediate termination of the contract, as the Hessians announced on Thursday. The 2.11 metre tall centre will play for league rivals Syntainics MBC from Weissenfels in the future and is expected to play there already on Friday evening. The 34-year-old Bryant played with a short interruption for the Giessen 46ers since 2017 and had previously won the league’s most valuable player award in two Bundesliga seasons (2011/12 and 2012/13).
“Unfortunately, it is sometimes the case that what was planned and hoped for does not come to pass and can be implemented. Both John and we have realised that the current situation is not satisfactory for both sides and have therefore mutually decided on a termination agreement,” said Gießen’s managing director and sports director Sebastian Schmidt. “The limited playing time in Giessen was no longer satisfactory for me personally,” Bryant commented. He is now looking forward to his new team and a new task.
On the MBC website, Bryant is quoted as follows: “The limited playing time in Giessen was no longer satisfying for me personally. When the MBC was looking for a new player after the loss of Johannes Richter, I didn’t have to hesitate for long. After a training session and a night in Weißenfels, I immediately set off with the team for the away game in Hamburg. I’m looking forward to my new team and my new role with the Wolves. I will bring in my strengths so that we can still get the maximum out of this season. “
