The German wrestlers can be happy about the first three medals for the DRB team at the European Championships in Budapest. Elena Brugger (Adelhausen) won the small final in the 59 kg category on Thursday evening and secured bronze. Anna Schell (Unterföhring/72 kg) and Luisa Niemesch (Weingarten/62 kg) also reached the final and will fight for gold on Friday.
Brugger defeated Alyona Kolesnik from Azerbaijan, against whom she had lost the day before, 9:0 in the bronze medal duel. Lisa Ersel (Berlin/50 kg) and Anastasia Blayvas (Leipzig/55 kg), who had also reached the small final, lost on the fourth day of the competition.
Schell, who won the World Championships, defeated Kendra Dacher from France in the semi-finals and will now face Buse Tosun from Turkey in the gold medal duel. Niemesch beat Ilona Prokownjuk from Ukraine in the final round, and Taybe Yusein from Bulgaria will be waiting for her in the final.
