British tennis player Francesca Jones collapses shortly before the end of the game. She later posts on social media.
British tennis player Francesca Jones collapsed during a match at a tournament in the Colombian capital Bogota. With the score at 3-5 in the third set, the 24-year-old was in the middle of serving before she sank to the ground and had to give up. Jones was treated directly by a medical team and taken off the court in a wheelchair.
The victory went to her opponent, Julia Riera of Argentina. Jones later gave the all-clear on Instagram. “We’ve had several tests overnight. It seems like my heart worked a little too hard that day, but luckily it didn’t have any long-term effects,” Jones wrote.
The Briton is currently ranked 129th in the world. Jones was born with the rare condition ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia syndrome and has often had to deal with physical problems. She has four fingers and a total of seven toes on both hands due to the genetic defect. Jones has repeatedly suffered from severe cramps. This time, she did not feel any cramps before she collapsed, Jones wrote.
