Brentford FC set an example in terms of sustainability and will continue to wear their home jerseys next season
It has long been completely normal for the top clubs not only to present a new shirt every year, but also to bring out an entire collection. Borussia Dortmund, for example, offers a home and an away kit for the Bundesliga and a Cup kit for the international competition in a double version in its shop – all in all, four kits!
So it comes as something of a surprise when a Premier League club now announces that it wants to use its current home kit again next season. Brentford want to make a contribution to sustainability and, according to their own statements, are also taking into account the wishes of Brentford supporters.

“Fans have told us they would prefer a two-season jersey because it saves you money,”, said club boss Jon Varney. “We also believe that football needs to be affordable for our fans and we recognise that football needs to be more sustainability focused.” He said they hoped it was “a step in the right direction” to help the environment a little.
Last summer Brentford made a return to the Premier League after 74 years. According to Varney, this offers new opportunities because as a Premier League member the club earns significantly more from television money and sponsorship deals than from jerseys.
