At the Challenge Finals of the Snapdragon Pro Series Brawl Stars Season 1, Reply Totem, Tribe Gaming and SK Gaming qualified for the Grand Final. The latter two delivered a thriller.
When the third and decisive set was over, the players from Tribe Gaming remained calm – no trace of ecstasy. They would have had reason to be, though, as they beat SK Gaming in an immensely exciting match to advance to the final of the Upper Bracket.
Amounts up to three sets
Who makes it there had just been open at the end. Played in best-of-three mode, a set is won when a team wins two or three rounds respectively. The number of rounds played depends on the mode. It changes after each set – so the aim is always to eliminate the opposing players, but also to fulfil tasks. For example, hoarding more diamonds than the opponent, capturing a control zone or scoring more goals in handball.
So it was the control zone game mode that brought the decision. After SK Gaming had fought their way back several times, they could not match their actual skills in the decisive round. The reason? The draft, SK captain Bekri ‘Symantec’ Tahiri told eSport: “We had to take characters that we didn’t train like that.” The draft is about picking game characters, which is done on a rotating basis. Who starts in the draft is decided by the coin toss, and the other team gets to pick two characters at a time after that.
With peace and comfort and fans behind them
Despite this, SK Gaming battled, biting their way into the set to score 2-2, but Tribe Gaming were unfazed by this and went on to win the deciding third round. A level-headedness that tipped the scales to victory, said captain Muhammad ‘Drage’ Drage in conversation with us. The support of a group of Reply Totem fans may also have helped. They cheered loudly for Tribe Gaming.
After all, SK Gaming is considered the toughest competitor to Totem, as their superstar Erik Bravo ‘Joker’ Granström told us. The team around the 16-year-old qualified easily and extended their winning streak to ten unbeaten games in a row. Tribe Gaming now awaits them on Sunday, but ‘Symantec’ and Co. also have a chance of winning the trophy and 60,000 pounds in prize money – but only one more. Because the team that loses in the upper bracket final gets a second chance against SK Gaming.
