Boxing star with a bizarre life story

Anthony Joshua causes a stir with an interview. The British boxing star reveals a juicy detail of his private life and confesses a major youthful sin

Anthony Joshua is currently one of the most successful boxers in the world. But the Briton has now revealed a juicy detail about his private life that was not to be expected at first glance.

To this day, the Brit lives with his mother. “In our culture, you grow up with your family. We grow up in our own family homes for a long time. We support our parents,” explains the boxing superstar in an interview with the BBC.

This doesn’t seem likely to change for Joshua. “If a girl gets together with me, she won’t just marry me, she’ll marry my mother too,” he admits.

Steep rise from hard times

However, the two-time heavyweight world champion allowed himself a few escapades in his youth despite being very close to his family. At the age of 13, the Watford-born Brit was already smoking marijuana, usually six times a day

However, when he was kicked out of the national team in 2011 for drug possession, he stopped using – and noticed the consequences immediately. “When I stopped smoking, I was able to make progress,” he says.

To this day, the boxer literally bears the scars of his youth on his body. On his way to buy chicken, Joshua was once attacked by six people and faced them in a fight. The scars are still visible on the 34-year-old’s knuckles today.

Joshua, who once even defeated Wladimir Klitschko, has also proven to be resilient in his boxing career to date. He has won 26 of 29 professional fights, 23 of them by knockout.
