Comeback in the boxing world. Legend Mike Tyson steps back into the ring and takes on his 30 years younger compatriot
Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson is getting back into the ring in his old age. The 57-year-old American will take on his 30-year-old younger compatriot Jake Paul in a show fight on July 20. YouTuber and actor Paul has been trying his hand at a boxing career since 2018. The fight will take place in the stadium of the Dallas Cowboys football club and will be broadcast by the streaming service Netflix.
Tyson announced that he wanted to “finish” Paul’s short career: “It will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a kid with the experience and talent of a GOAT can do,” he said.
Tyson last in the ring in 2020
The fight continues the recent trend of internet celebrities competing against each other or against prominent boxers who are long past their prime. Jake Paul’s brother Logan Paul, who faced boxing icon Floyd Mayweather in 2021, played a key role in this development. The fight ended with a whistle from the fans, as Mayweather hardly threw any serious punches for eight rounds.
Tyson had returned to the ring after more than 15 years in November 2020 in a show fight against Roy Jones junior, the eight-round fight ended in a draw. His opponent Paul has won nine of his ten fights as a professional to date, the last two by knockout
