Boxing: Ex-world champion Fury announces retirement again

Is he serious this time? Tyson Fury does not want to step into the boxing ring again. It is not his first retirement announcement.

Former world boxing champion Tyson Fury has once again announced the end of his career – and this time he seems to mean it. Around three weeks after his second defeat at the hands of Ukrainian heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk, the 36-year-old shared his decision in a video on social media on Monday.

“Hello everyone, I’ll be brief: I want to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every minute of it,” said the ‘Gypsy King.’ Fury had already announced his retirement after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but returned six months later.

His record is impressive. Fury won 34 of his 37 fights as a professional, with one fight being a draw. The Briton’s only two defeats came at the hands of Usyk.

Fury had become famous in 2015 when he surprisingly knocked WBA, IBF and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko off the heavyweight throne after more than 11 years without defeat. After that, Fury fell into a deep hole and made headlines for doping and drug offenses. In 2016, he returned all of his belts before making a big comeback in 2018.
