Boxing duel between MotoGP retirees: Lorenzo and Pedrosa enter the ring

This Thursday, the time has come: Former MotoGP stars Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa will fight a boxing match in Barcelona

In April, former MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo caused a sensation when he announced his intention to challenge his former rival Dani Pedrosa in the boxing ring. Now it’s actually coming to a showdown: this Thursday, the two Spaniards will let their fists fly, as Lorenzo himself confirms

On the official Instagram page of his MotoGP podcast “Dura la vita”, he teased the fight this week. The boxing duel will be shown on DAZN Spain. However, it is assumed that the podcast’s YouTube channel will also stream the fight freely available to everyone.

The venue is the Gran Price Boxing Club, one of Barcelona’s most traditional boxing clubs. This is where Lorenzo and Pedrosa, who have often fought duels during their sporting careers, will now continue their rivalry in a different way.

When Lorenzo publicly challenged Pedrosa, the latter did not hesitate for long: “I won’t deny that the temptation to throw a few punches at you is pretty strong.”

And Pedrosa emphasized: “I’m in good form at the moment.” After all, the 38-year-old is still active in MotoGP even after his official retirement and recently completed another wildcard outing in Jerez as a KTM test rider.

Lorenzo took it a little easier after his retirement from the premier class. His intermezzo as a Yamaha test rider only lasted a short time. Since then, the three-time MotoGP champion has mainly worked as a TV pundit for DAZN and as a podcaster. However, he also trained diligently in advance for the boxing match.

In the paddock, however, most of his colleagues were rooting for Pedrosa when the fight was announced. He may be inferior to Lorenzo in terms of height and weight – Lorenzo is 13 centimetres taller and a good 15 kilos heavier – but it would not be the first time that the “underdog” has triumphed in the end.
