Scottish boxer Willi Limond is dead. The former European champion dies at the age of 45
Mourning for Willie Limond: The Scottish boxer died on April 15, presumably as a result of a seizure. The former European and Commonwealth champion was only 45 years old.
Limond, who had last fought his compatriot Ricky Burns in September, was due to face Joe Laws in his comeback fight in Glasgow on May 3.
Limonds with a successful boxing career
However, last week the Scot, who leaves behind two sons, was discovered unresponsive in his car just hours before he was due to take part in a public training session in Glasgow. It is believed he had suffered a seizure and was taken to hospital, where he has now died. “He fought for nearly ten days. Warrior,” wrote his son Jake Limond on Instagram.
Limond had a successful career, winning 42 of his 48 fights, 13 of them by knockout. During his 24-year career, he won the European super featherweight title, the Commonwealth lightweight and super lightweight titles and the British super lightweight title.

The St Andrew’s Sporting Club, which was scheduled to host Limond’s next fight on May 3, wrote on X: “Everyone at St Andrew’s Sporting Club is shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Willie Limond. “
His former opponent Curtis Woodhouse also remembers the Scot. “I am absolutely devastated when I heard the news of the death of Willie Limond, a great fighter and a great man. We kept in touch after our fight and always laughed together. Rest in peace, champion. “
