David Brooks, currently under contract with English second division side AFC Bournemouth, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he revealed himself via social media on Wednesday. Next week, the 24-year-old will begin treatment.
“Writing this news is very difficult for me,” Brooks began his statement on his illness. The attacking midfielder was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a malignant tumour of the lymphatic system. “The prognosis from the doctors is positive,” writes Brooks, who will already begin treatment next week.
Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which causes swelling of the lymph nodes, loss of appetite and heavy night sweats, among other symptoms, is usually treated with the help of radiation and chemotherapy. The disease can be cured in more than 80 percent of those affected, who are usually over 20 and over 70 years of age.

“We will not give out a timetable for his return. We will give David the time he needs to get better,” Bournemouth manager Neill Blake made clear.
Brooks has played 39 Premier League games for the Cherrys so far, and the attacking player has been a regular since their relegation in 2020. In the summer, Brooks was at the European Championship with his home country Wales, where he played in three of the four games from the bench.
