The Telekom Baskets have missed out on the Final Four in the Champions League. Bonn lost game three against Peristeri in front of their home crowd
The defending champions Telekom Baskets Bonn have missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The club from Bonn lost its third quarter-final encounter against Greek side GS Peristeri 77:89 (43:51) in front of its home crowd on Tuesday, turning the series around after the opening defeat. It was above all the high efficiency of the visitors, who hit over 61 percent of their shots, that cost Bonn a place in the next round.
“That’s tough. We’ve worked hard all season for this moment, but it wasn’t enough,” said Bonn’s Brian Fobbs on the DAZN microphone: “They were simply better and more physical than us today. It hurts, but we have great fans and we’re keeping our heads up.” Despite the elimination, the Bonn crowd celebrated the team.
The team of Belgian head coach Roel Moors, which is currently eighth in the German league and fighting for a direct play-off spot, found itself ten points behind at the end of the first quarter despite a good first few minutes. Shortly before the break in the final period, the deficit had shrunk to one point, but the Baskets were not able to close the gap. Instead, the gap grew steadily again.
