Telekom Baskets Bonn have secured home court in the quarter-finals of the Basketball Champions League against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. The German runners-up won 85:81 (52:49) in Ludwigsburg on Wednesday to finish first in Group J. Ludwigsburg’s Silas Melson was the best scorer with 23 points. Glynn Watson (17) scored most often for Bonn.
While Bonn can now play twice at home in the best-of-three series in the quarter-finals, Ludwigsburg has to play two games away as group runners-up. Both teams had already qualified for the round of the best eight before the match.
Bonn was more accurate in the first quarter. Ludwigsburg played with more concentration in the second quarter, especially in offense, and drew ever closer. After half-time, the home side of Head Coach Josh King took the initiative and turned the game around. Ludwigsburg now had a higher shooting percentage, especially from the three-point line.
However, hopes of winning the group were soon extinguished, as Bonn was back in contention at the start of the final quarter and equalized.
