Viktoria Köln welcomes a former international player to training. Gonzalo Castro is keeping fit at the third-division club.
“Until further notice “ former international Castro will train with Viktoria, the Cologne website said this Wednesday. The 34-year-old, who played 409 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart, is currently without a club.
“I want to keep fit and train at a high level. Viktoria offers the best conditions. I would like to thank those responsible for giving me the opportunity to do so,” the 21-time German international is quoted as saying.
Marcus Steegmann, sporting director of the Rhinelanders, explained: “Gonzalo approached us with the request to be allowed to train with Viktoria. After consulting with head coach Olaf Janßen, we were happy to comply with his request. With his footballing quality and experience, he raises the training level even further.”
Both sides would benefit from the cooperation because the player would also increase his chances of “quickly finding a new club” through the training work under Janßen.
