A two-day private MotoGP test is taking place in Misano this Monday and Tuesday – KTM and Aprilia are confirmed to be taking part
After the season opener on March 2, the 2025 MotoGP season has already seen three races: the Grand Prix of Thailand, Argentina and America. The next race is the Qatar Grand Prix, which takes place from April 11-13.
Before that, however, the test and development departments of some of the premier class teams will make a two-day stop at the Italian circuit in Misano to start preparations for the official MotoGP test event on Monday, April 28, after the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.
On that day, all MotoGP teams and riders will be able to test without the restrictions of the Concession system – limited only by the number of test tires available to each rider for the season.
These are 170 for Ducati riders, 220 for Aprilia and KTM, and 260 for the Japanese manufacturers, who benefit from the highest level of concessions.
Pol Espargaro, Pedrosa and Savadori back on track
KTM will take part in the two-day private test at Misano with Spanish test riders Pol Espargaro and Dani Pedrosa. Neither has ridden the RC16 since the Shakedown test at Sepang in early February.
Also present is Italian Lorenzo Savadori, Aprilia’s test rider, who has so far replaced the injured Jorge Martin. Martin is expected to return for Qatar.
Ducati has not yet confirmed its participation. According to the current concessions, the team could participate with test driver Michele Pirro, who has also not driven since the official pre-season test on February 7 in Sepang.
Honda will test in Valencia after Qatar
The two Japanese manufacturers, Yamaha and Honda, will definitely not be present at the test in Misano this week. Both manufacturers currently enjoy the highest level of concessions, which means that they are allowed to test at any track with any driver, including regular drivers.
Honda had originally planned a private test in Jerez two weeks ago, but had to cancel it due to severe flooding at the track.
It has now scheduled a new test date for the week following the Qatar Grand Prix. However, as this period falls within the 14-day ban before the Spanish Grand Prix, the test had to be moved to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
In addition to the official MotoGP test in Jerez on April 28, the 2025 season includes two more official test days for drivers and manufacturers: on June 9 at MotorLand Aragon and on September 15 at Misano – the day after the Grand Prix.
