FC Bayern Munich will join FC 24 as an eSports newcomer in the 2023/24 season. The first VBL squad in the history of the record champions has been announced – with well-known names from the Club Championship
FC Bayern Munich is certainly not making a big deal of its participation in the VBL Club Championship (VBLCC) in the new season. Even the announcement was barely publicized. One reason for this could be that the German record champions are an official partner of eFootball 2024 and Konami. The Virtual Bundesliga (VBL), on the other hand, is played in the rival game EA SPORTS FC 24.
The squad for the VBLCC has now been finalized despite dampened FCB enthusiasm. Three FC eSport players have prevailed in the qualifiers organized by the Munich team: Lukas ‘Lukas__1004’ Seiler, Fabian ‘Epixal’ Loos and Thomas ‘xThomas_om’ Ostermaier. The trio most recently played for TSG Hoffenheim, FC Schalke 04 and SSV Jahn Regensburg. They are all familiar faces from the Club Championship
Munich players emphasize “team spirit and identification “
On its website, FC Bayern makes it clear that the three new players were not only signed because of their sporting performances at the selection tournaments. “Other qualities such as team spirit and identification with the club” are also said to have played a role. In addition to ‘Lukas_1004’, ‘Epixal’ and ‘xThomas_om’, Munich have also found a new coach for FC 24: Marcel ‘Minusmacher31’ Gramann.
FC Bayern will make their VBLCC debut on the first matchday next Sunday at 3.30 pm against Karlsruher SC. The kick-off to the new season will be held by the DFL as an offline event at the Strassenkicker Base in Cologne. Two further offline match days are to follow at the start of 2024
