Bayern Munich got back on the road to success with a lackluster win against Skyliners Frankfurt. Syntainics MBC defeated Vechta, which was in fourth place in the table, and got a boost ahead of the upcoming Final Four duel against Bayern. The Niners Chemnitz remain on course for the playoffs.
The team of world champion coach Gordon Herbert prevailed against promoted Skyliners Frankfurt with 70:56 (42:35) and consolidated the league lead in the Bundesliga. On Sunday, Munich surprisingly made a mistake at Rasta Vechta (65:79).
Carsen Edwards was the top scorer for Munich with ten points, who had won six competitive games in a row before the defeat in Vechta. In the Bundesliga, the Lions of Braunschweig (record: 13:6) are hot on the heels of the champions (13:5). The key to success against Frankfurt for Herberts’ team was a strong second quarter (28:13).
MBC beats Vechta comfortably
Bavaria’s opponent in the upcoming Top Four, the Syntainics MBC, has meanwhile built up its self-confidence for the cup. The team from Weißenfels defeated fourth-placed Rasta Vechta 91:83 (48:36). Spencer Reaves contributed 33 points to the Central Germans’ tenth win of the season. Brandon Randolph scored 20 points for Vechta.
After a patchy start, the players of Head Coach Janis Gailitis turned on the heat and, thanks to a 13:2 run, turned a 15:16 deficit into a 28:18 lead within five minutes. The hosts extended this lead to 45:31. Thanks to a strong shooting percentage of 46 percent from the field, they never looked back. The game was more or less decided by the 67:46 scoreline in the 28th minute. The Niners now face Bayern in the BBL Cup at home on Saturday.
Niners Chemnitz on playoff course
The Niners Chemnitz, meanwhile, remain on playoff course. The Saxons kept the upper hand against MLP Academics Heidelberg in front of their home crowd with 72:65 (38:33) and thus overtook the guests in the table to fifth place. Olivier Nkamhoua with 16, Jeff Garrett with 12 and Victor Bailey Jr. and William Christmas with 11 points each played a major part in the eleventh win of the season for the Saxons. Osun Osunniyi and Alex Barcello (14) were the top scorers for Heidelberg.
The home side did not get into their stride until midway through the first period. They produced a 14:3 run to turn the game around after trailing 13:4 in the 5th minute and then stretched the gap to 34:19. However, they then lost their thread. Heidelberg came within a point at 46:47. But with nine points in a row, the Saxons pulled away again to 56:46 and broke the resistance of the guests.
