The FC Bayern basketball team won the game in Rostock to record their seventh victory of the season. It was the start of a tough week with three away games in a row.
The final score was 80:70, keeping Munich within striking distance of the new league leaders, MLP Academics Heidelberg. Despite a rather bumpy start, with Rostock leading 40:38 at half-time, Bayern got into their stride in the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Rostock, led by Bryce Hamilton, who scored a brilliant 25 points, kept in the game for a long time, but Bayern shone with a strong team performance. In particular Carsen Edwards (17 points), Andreas Obst (14) and Kevin Yebo (13) ensured that the lead was continually extended.
With seven wins and three defeats, Bayern remain on course, even though the league leaders are surprisingly Heidelberg, who took over at the top on Saturday with a narrow 69:67 win at Ratiopharm Ulm. For Munich, it was the first of three games in a row away from home. On Tuesday, they travel to Monaco before an away game in Milan is on the agenda in the EuroLeague on Friday.
Oldenburg wins Lower Saxony derby
EWE Baskets Oldenburg won the Lower Saxony derby against BG Göttingen by 111:94 (54:53) to capture their fifth home victory. After a difficult first half, the hosts improved significantly. They found their rhythm in the second half, in particular, led by Artur Konontsuk (24 points) and Justin Jaworski (24), and turned the game around.
After a weak start in which Göttingen took a 33:24 lead, Oldenburg rallied thanks to strong teamwork. With 28 assists and solid defense, they took a 54:53 lead by half-time. In the third quarter, the lead grew through fast break points. Göttingen came within six points again in the final period, but Oldenburg secured a deserved win.
The bottom-of-the-table team from Göttingen will host Alba Berlin at home in a week’s time (3 p.m.). Oldenburg’s next game is also on Sunday, against FC Bayern in Munich, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Ludwigsburg extends winning streak against Chemnitz
MHP The giants from Ludwigsburg have won their fourth game in a row. The team of Head Coach John Patrick defeated Niners Chemnitz 69:65. The defenses dominated the game, but 21 turnovers and 24 offensive rebounds by the home side cost the Niners a possible victory.
After a successful start by Chemnitz (15:14 after the first quarter) and a temporary lead of 30:19 (16th minute), Ludwigsburg turned the game around with a 19: 3 run to turn the game around and lead 35:34 at half-time. Chemnitz fought back again in the third period and went in at the end of three quarters with a narrow 57:55 lead. However, Ludwigsburg then produced a late 12:5 run to pull away and capture the victory.
Olivier Nkamhoua (18 points) and Victor Bailey Jr. (17) were the top scorers for Chemnitz, while DeAndre Lansdowne (11) also scored in double figures. Hunter Maldonado (16), Ezra Manjon and Joel Scott (12 each) and Yorman Polas Bartolo (11) were the main contributors for Ludwigsburg.
