Bayern lose in Hamburg – Tenth win in a row for Bonn

The Hamburg Towers have won the top match of the BBL against FC Bayern München. On Sunday, the seventh-placed team in the table defeated the third-placed team at home with 87:83 (41:38). With the third success in a row, Hamburg takes a big step towards play-off qualification.

The Towers opened the game with a 16:4 run and were carried in the first half by Robin Christen, who had sunk five threes by then. In the third Deshaun Thomas (28 points) brought Bayern back into the game. Caleb Homesley became Hamburg’s matchwinner with a three-pointer to make it 84-80 in the final minute and 22 points.

Telekom Baskets Bonn remain at the top of the table. With a 78-76 (42-28) home win over BG Göttingen, the Rhinelanders recorded their tenth success in a row and also secured home advantage in the first play-off round. Karsten Tadda hit the game-winning shot with 15 seconds on the clock and Javontae Hawkins was the top scorer with 25 points.

The Jobstairs Giessen 46ers kept their minimal chances of staying in the league alive. The team from the bottom of the table won the Hesse derby against the Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt with 76:75 (38:32). The Giessen team thus stopped its negative trend of six defeats in a row. Kendale McCullum led his team to its seventh win of the season with eleven points in the last seven minutes. Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels in 16th place, however, have three more wins to their credit.
