After suffering a muscle injury in his thigh, Denzel Dumfries has not only left the Dutch national team. The winger also fears for the Champions League quarter-final – and Inter with him.
Last Sunday, in the important 2-0 win in the Serie A top game at Atalanta Bergamo, Denzel Dumfries was substituted by Inter coach Simone Inzaghi in the 66th minute with a face contorted in pain and replaced by Yann Aurel Bisseck, who was nominated for the first time for the DFB selection.
Since then, the player and his club have been fearing a significant period of absence, which has already expanded significantly between Monday and Tuesday.
The first leg against Milan is apparently already falling through
The thigh injury that Dumfries suffered forced him to leave for Milan immediately upon his arrival, even though he had initially been nominated by national coach Ronald Koeman for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final match against title defender and European champion Spain.
The 28-year-old perennial starter was expected to arrive there to be examined more closely at the Nerazzurri club grounds. However, initial tests have already shown, according to Italian media, that Dumfries will have to sit out club football until at least a week after the end of this international break. This would mean that the offensive man would miss both the Serie A home game against Udinese Calcio on March 30 and the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against city rivals Milan on April 2.
At the same time, there are concerns as to whether Dumfries will be fully fit again in the event of a short break until after the clash with the city rivals. Here, namely, away games in Parma (April 6) and, in particular, at FC Bayern Munich for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie (April 8) await him and Inter Milan.
