According to media reports, Justus Hollatz is about to join Bayern’s basketball team. The 2023 world champion is set to sign a contract in Munich until 2027.
The squad of the German world champions of 2023 around world champion coach Gordon Herbert at FC Bayern Basketball is growing: As the Hamburger Abendblatt reports, Justus Hollatz is also about to join the club on the Isar. For about a year and a half, the Hamburg Towers home-grown player has been playing for Anadolu Efes Istanbul, an absolute top team in Europe.
The point guard, who has played 87 German league games for Hamburg Towers so far, is set to sign a contract in Munich until 2027. However, the two clubs have yet to officially confirm the move. The 23-year-old has hardly featured for the Turks in the EuroLeague this season, making just eleven appearances with an average playing time of six minutes. He has averaged 0.7 points, 0.7 rebounds and one assist in that short time. With a record of 10 wins and 12 defeats, Anadolu is currently behind Bayern in the table.
Hollatz will face some familiar faces
Munich, the league leaders in the BBL, have so far won 12 games in the top flight and are currently in 10th place, the last play-in spot. However, Holl But Hollatz also faces plenty of competition for minutes at the other positions in Munich: the versatile point guard will have to share time primarily with the recently strong Nick Weiler-Babb, Shabazz Napier and Carsen Edwards.
Hollatz also knows Oscar da Silva from the national team, along with the other world champions Andi Obst, Niels Giffey and Johannes Voigtmann. The forward, who was signed from Barcelona before the season, took Hollatz’s place in the DBB selection at the Olympic Games this summer. The Hamburg native was the last player to be cut by his old, new coach Herbert.
