The German national basketball team has made history with its victory over the USA and the accompanying entry into the final. It was a triumph of determination, cohesion and unconditional will. They wanted to make the impossible possible. Our team has an emotional violence that I have rarely seen.
Great successes like this one today have many fathers, as we know. Of course, it is always the players first who have to commit 100 per cent to the common path. Everyone has to become a star in their respective roles. Everyone has to be ready to tap into reservoirs that most people don’t even know exist.
It wasn’t just a thrilling game that showcased all that makes modern basketball so fascinating. It was the victory of a European-influenced idea of the game against the pronounced individualism of the Americans. The same can be said, by the way, about the well-deserved victory of the Serbs over Canada in the other semi-final.

The outcome of the final is now completely open. There are two teams fighting for the World Cup title that rightly bear the title “national team”.
