Real Madrid are chasing a deficit against PSG – and in terms of personnel, the royals are gradually running on fumes.
Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos have consistently helped Real Madrid make big leaps in the Champions League in recent years. But in this year’s round of 16 first leg at PSG, the trio barely looked like they had any ground to make up – and are unlikely to make up for it in the second leg.
In Madrid, the Blancos will probably only have 36-year-old Modric: In addition to Casemiro, who is suspended with a yellow card, Real will probably also have to do without Kroos, who is said to have suffered a muscle injury in his left leg during training. The “AS” and other Spanish media reported this on Thursday.
In order to replace Casemiro and Kroos, coach Carlo Ancelotti, whose infrequent rotations seem to be falling on his toes at the moment, could rely on Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga, who have, however, made only very irregular appearances so far.
Despite being heavily outnumbered at the Prinzenpark, the Royals came away with a late 0:1. As is well known, the away goals rule no longer exists.
