The first stand-alone event of the new ESL Impact League took place at DreamHack in Valencia at the weekend. Less new were the winners.
With Nigma Galaxy, the team that had already won the title at the last DreamHack in Dallas secured the title. But not only was the title holder the same as in Dallas, the final was also the same.
Final also repeated itself
As in Texas, the European team around MVP Ksenia ‘Vilga’ Kluenkova faced the Brazilian eSports organisation Furia in the final. However, in contrast to the last encounter, Furia did not really manage to pose a threat to the Nigma players this time.
In the first match of the best-of-three series, the Nigma players showed sovereign gameplay on Dust 2 and rewarded themselves with a 16:8 and the lead. The final decision was made in the second match on Vertigo. Although the Brazilians kept things a little tighter this time, Galaxy finally managed a 16:11 and a 2:0 sweep to defend their title.
Season 2 is just around the corner
This means that the first season of the newly created CS:GO League for female teams is going into the summer break. But it won’t be too long, because the first qualifiers of the competition will already start at the end of August. Since these are completely free rounds and every female crew can participate, the teams for the next edition have not yet been determined.
However, it is already clear that the second season of the ESL Impact League will feature a prize pool of 150,000 US dollars. The venue for the Global Finals has also been decided: the Winter DreamHack, which will take place from 25 to 27 November in Jönköping, Sweden. With Nigma Galaxy, a first favourite has already been announced.
