Back in Frankfurt: Schwegler becomes head of professional soccer

Almost five months ago, Pirmin Schwegler resigned from his position as head of professional soccer at TSG Hoffenheim. Now, not really surprisingly, he is returning to Eintracht Frankfurt in exactly this role.

Pirmin Schwegler played 141 games for Frankfurt between 2009 and 2014, scoring seven goals for the Eagles, and now the former team captain is returning to Eintracht. This has been in the offing since last summer, and now it’s official. The 37-year-old will take up the position of head of professional soccer from January 1, 2025, as the club announced on Saturday.

Not an unknown task for Schwegler, as he was most recently responsible for this area for Bundesliga rivals TSG Hoffenheim before leaving the Kraichgau club at the end of July following the surprising dismissal of sports director Alexander Rosen.

So now Frankfurt. “As a former professional and player for Eintracht Frankfurt, Pirmin Schwegler can pass on a lot of his experience to the young players and support them in their daily development,” explained Markus Krösche.

“Pirmin is a great fit for this team”

“He’ll be close to the team, have lots of conversations and thus be an important point of contact for the boys,” said the sporting director about the 14-time Swiss international. “We want to make the conditions in the team’s immediate environment as professional as possible. With Timmo Hardung as sporting director and Christoph Preuss as head of the professional squad, we are very well staffed, and Pirmin fits very well into this team.”

Schwegler also played in the Bundesliga for Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Hannover, making a total of 262 appearances in the German top flight.
