Luis Suarez has been without a club, but the attacker still wants to play football. On Tuesday evening, the 35-year-old announced his new club
The decision was expected on Tuesday – and it was finally made in the evening: Luis Suarez is moving back to Uruguay, joining Nacional Montevideo. The club for which the now 35-year-old had already played between 2003 and 2006.
In a video on social media, the attacker announced that an agreement had been reached with the capital club. Final details would now have to be clarified. But it’s all a formality for the attacker, who expects to sign his new contract shortly.
Suarez is certainly an attacker who has helped shape football in recent years. In 2006, he moved to Europe to join Groningen, then quickly moved on to Ajax Amsterdam for the striker. In 2011, Liverpool FC finally took notice of the Uruguayan, who matured into an absolute top striker for the Reds, scoring a whopping 73 times in 118 games.
Title collector with FC Barcelona
A letter of application that was enough for the great FC Barcelona. There, too, Suarez continued to score blithely, ending up with 178 goals in 249 games. In addition, the 35-year-old began to fill his trophy cabinet. With the Catalans, he became champion four times, cup winner four times and Champions League winner once in six years.
For whatever reason, Barcelona had no more use for Suarez in the summer of 2020. The striker stayed in Spain and joined Atletico, where he scored 21 goals in his first season to help the Rojiblancos become Spanish champions. In his second year, the Uruguayan still scored eleven times, although things did not go as well as in his first year in Madrid. In the summer, his contract finally expired and was not renewed. In his search for a new club, Suarez has now found one in his homeland.
