One and a half months later than originally planned, the Autosport Awards were presented in London: Overview of those who were honoured for the 2021 season
Later than originally planned, the coveted Autosport Awards 2021 were presented in London on Sunday. The reason for the postponement of the event from 19 December 2021 to 6 February 2022 was the reported emergence of the omicron variant of the coronavirus in the UK at the end of 2021.
Now, on Sunday evening, the awards for the 2021 motorsport season were handed out a month and a half later than originally planned. While the 2020 edition of the Autosport Awards was a virtual event, the 2021 edition was held in front of an audience at Grosvenor House.
Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen was presented with the award in the category Racing Driver of the Year. The Red Bull RB16B, with which Verstappen won his first world championship title, was voted Racing Car of the Year. The Young Driver Award went to Zak O’Sullivan, runner-up in British Formula 4, while the inaugural Gold Medal Award went to now former FIA President Jean Todt.
