While Novak Djokovic is still waiting for a decision from the Australian authorities on his visa, the next headlines come: Australian Open organisers have postponed the draw
The organisers of the first Grand Slam tournament of the new season have postponed their Australian Open draw amid all the confusion surrounding world number one Novak Djokovic.
Originally, the draw for the duels was to have started at 5.00 a.m. German time on Monday. Now it did not start until 6.15 am. According to the reports, nothing indicated the postponement a few minutes before the originally scheduled start. No reasons were given.
Australian media speculated that the postponement was due to the pending decision of the Australian authorities on Novak Djokovic’s visa. The No. 1 seed violated the country’s Corona regulations when he entered the country. A final decision is unlikely to be made on Thursday.
First up, Djokovic was part of the draw, with his Serbian compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic drawn to him. Whether he will actually start the tournament on Monday remains questionable. The German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev starts the Open with a German duel. His first opponent is Daniel Altmaier (Kempen).
