Melbourne (dpa) – Kaia Kanepi has reached the last 16 of the Australian Open for the first time after her first-round win over Angelique Kerber. The 36-year-old Estonian beat Australian wildcard Maddison Inglis 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 in Melbourne.
World No. 115 Kanepi had won against three-time Grand Slam tournament winner Kerber in two sets on Tuesday. All three German women in the main draw of the Australian Open were eliminated in the first round.
