Just recently, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his first goals for FC Barcelona. A little later, he gave his first big interview as a Barça player and also commented on his colleague Ousmane Dembelé.
Auba scored his first, second and third goals for FC Barcelona in the 4-1 win in Valencia. The 32-year-old striker is the first player this millennium to score a treble in the highest leagues in France, Germany, England and Spain. The goal debut could hardly have been more successful.
A little later, the Gabonese gave his first big interview as a Barça player. In the sports magazine “Mundo Deportivo”, for example, Aubameyang also commented on his new, old colleague Ousmane Dembelé. “I’m glad he’s here,” the former Dortmund and Arsenal player declared. Even more, “Auba” would like to see the 24-year-old alongside him at Barcelona for longer: “I told him: ‘You have to stay, man.'”
Both already know each other from Dortmund times, when they provided goals for BVB in 2016/17. Aubameyang stayed for another year and then left for England, Dembelé left BVB after just one season and signed for Barcelona. Since his arrival, however, the French winger and striker has been plagued by injuries and fluctuating performances. A transfer failed in the winter break, and so the 24-year-old will remain at FCB at least until the summer.
Dembelé “incredible” and Haaland “a crack “
Aubameyang, like Barça coach Xavi, thinks a lot of the Frenchman: “Ousmane is one of the best on the ball and incredible as a striker.” The Gabonese does not know whether he will extend his contract. But one thing is certain: “In life, anything is possible.”
The 32-year-old also had a few words to say about another incredible striker: “Haaland is a crack.” Through his contacts in Dortmund, “Auba” had heard that “he is a player who always wants to win”. For the new Barça striker, Haaland is already one of the best. Should he also join Barcelona, the two will compete together, the Gabonese said. “Competition is good. Especially with Barça, who need the best in the world.”
For Barcelona, it’s on to the Europa League for now: on Thursday the FCB plays host to SSC Napoli. At the same time, BVB plays at Rangers from Glasgow. Whether with or without Haaland is not yet certain.
