SpVgg Greuther Fürth has strengthened its squad for the rest of the season with Joshua Quarshie from TSG Hoffenheim.
With Joshua Quarshie, the Kleeblatt has been able to sign a central defender on loan for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old is under contract with TSG Hoffenheim. Quarshie was last loaned to Fortuna Düsseldorf for a year. He already has 13 second division appearances and one Bundesliga appearance to his name.
“Joshua was very happy about our interest and he immediately signaled to us that he wants to get involved here in Fürth,” Kleeblatt sporting director Stephan Fürstner says of the new defender for the club. “With his athleticism and robustness, he already has a lot of the qualities we look for in a central defender to stabilize our defense. And, of course, we are pleased that we have been able to sign another German U-national player.”
Fürth’s coach Jan Siewert is also looking forward to working with his new protégé. “With Joshua, we are once again gaining a player with a lot of dynamism and pace for our defense. It’s always important to have different types of players in the ranks and I am convinced that Joshua will be a great addition to the team. It was important for us to get someone who already knows the league, so he won’t need a long period of adjustment and can help us immediately.”
Quarshie, a current member of the German U-20 national team who holds both German and Ghanaian citizenship, passed his medical check on Monday and then signed his loan contract with the club until the end of the season. Quarshie has been a member of all junior national teams since the U-18s and recently captained the German U-20s.
“I want to throw myself into it all”
“I was very happy when the people in charge here in Fürth approached me. It quickly became clear to me that I wanted to take this step and earn my playing time here by giving it my all,” said Quarshie. “I’m already looking forward to my first training session today and I want to throw myself into everything to help the team.”
The 1.96-metre tall central defender will be on the pitch with his new colleagues as early as today, Tuesday, preparing for the next away game in Paderborn (Sunday, 2 February). He already knows one of his new teammates quite well: Felix Klaus is his old and new teammate, until recently they were both still playing for Fortuna Düsseldorf. Quarshie will wear the number 15 shirt at the club with the four-leaf clover logo.
