As England Land in Russia, There are Concerns About Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford had a great game in the last warm up match against Costa Rica. He was named player of the match and scored a sensational goal to send England on their way to Russia with two good warm up wins under their belts. Whilst Southgate has not revealed his starting XI, it was thought that this performance might have been enough for Rashford to convince the manager to start him against Tunisia on 18 June.

Rashford’s injury to be assessed by medical team

Today Rashford will be assessed by the medical staff for England to reveal the extent of the injury he sustained in training before they boarded their flight to Russia. He has picked up what is thought to be a minor knee injury as they went through their final training session at St George’s Park.

Whether Rashford was due to start the first game or not, he will certainly have been in Southgate’s plans as a key player for England. His pace and determination to drive at defenders makes him a frightening prospect to come off the bench, so England fans will be wishing him a very speedy recovery.

Southgate says his injury is ‘nothing too serious’

Southgate has addressed the issue and played down the injury, saying that it is nothing too serious. Sky Sports have reported that he will miss training today as a precautionary measure. Hopefully, he will be back in training tomorrow and fit and ready to take on Tunisia on Monday evening, as England will be counting on him to add some flair and pace to the attack.

Most football pundits are predicting that Rashford would be in the starting XI if fit, joining Kane and Sterling in a strong looking strikeforce. However, Lingard could easily be drafted in if Rashford is not fit in time. One of the biggest questions is whether Eric Dier or Jordan Henderson will be selected in the middle of the park. Both players offer different attributes and Southgate has hinted that he is unlikely to start them both at the same time.
