Arsenal was able to place himself in front of the semi-finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening. The Gunners were, despite a strongly modified basic set-up, in house thanks to a hit by Danny Welbeck with 1-0 too strong for West Ham United, who can now fully focus on the Premier League and the FA Cup. Because of the extension at Leicester City – Manchester City, the Londoners are the first club to know the places for the semi-finals of the second English cup tournament.
Just like colleague Josep Guardiola did at Manchester City at the same time, Arsène Wenger also had a number of players come into action that normally don’t take so many minutes. One of those points, Theo Walcott, was given the first good opportunity for the Gunners just before rest, but his header ball disappeared from the wrong side of the pole. Three minutes later, Mathieu Debuchy was at the heart of Welbeck’s opening hit.

The Frenchman’s first move was rumbled in by the striker, who made his first hit in the EFL Cup since October 2009 when he was still active in Manchester United’s shirt. The biggest chance of the second company was for the visitors, via Aaron Creswell. The midfielder was allowed to lay a favourable position for a free kick, but saw his attempt flying just past the goal of David Ospina.
