Arnautovic ends Frosinone’s hopes of springing a surprise

Inter Milan did not show any weakness at basement club Frosinone. A measured performance coupled with an ice-cold exploitation of chances was enough for the champions. However, the Nerazzurri were also somewhat fortunate that the home side missed some of their best chances. Arnautovic’s goal to make it 2:0 in the meantime finally broke the deadlock

While Inter Milan can end the season as champions, newcomers Frosinone are still fighting to avoid relegation – and therefore started the game actively. However, the Nerazzurri struck with the first real chance through Frattesi (18th).

But the hosts were not shocked: Brescianini let Sommer fly (25) and Cheddira even hit the crossbar (40). A heavily rotated Milan side continued to take it easy and could count themselves lucky that Frosinone simply left too much to chance, as Eusebio di Francesco’s team simply failed to score after the break despite the best of chances

German U-21 international Bisseck almost added to his tally out of nowhere, but headed against the crossbar after a corner (58′). Arnautovic then made everything clear just two minutes later. The 35-year-old only had to push in a Frattesi pass to score his third goal of the season (60′).

Inter make it clear

When Carlos Augusto cleared Brescianini’s shot off the line (76′) and Buchanan used his freedom to make it 3-0 (77′), the promoted team’s will was broken. More and more mistakes crept into the defense

Substitute Lautaro Martinez took advantage of a poor clearance to make it 4:0 (80′) and Thuram also profited from a loss of possession, lobbing the ball over keeper Cerofolini to make it 5:0 (84′).

Record season is possible

Inter could thus continue to break their own points record. In the 2006/07 season, the Milanese champions finished with 97 points; this season they could end up with 98 points. To do so, the Nerazzurri need two wins in their last two games (at home against Lazio and away at Hellas Verona)
