Another loan spell: Werner stays with Spurs

Leipzig loanee Timo Werner will continue to play for Tottenham Hotspur next season. What will happen in 2025 is currently still open

Timo Werner will not return to RB Leipzig in the summer, but will be loaned out to Tottenham Hotspur for another year. In addition, Spurs have the option to sign the striker permanently for 2025. Coach Ange Postecoglou described Werner as a “great signing” in April.

“We are very pleased to have found a good solution for both sides so early on in the transfer window. Timo’s loan in the winter paid off in any case, so we wanted to give him the chance to continue,” commented sporting director Rouven Schröder in a statement from the club. “Up until his injury, he was regularly on the pitch for Tottenham from the start in almost every game, proving his abilities and playing an important role. “

Injury dashed last European Championship hopes

However, Werner’s season ended prematurely at the end of April following a thigh injury. As a result, the 28-year-old no longer had a chance to offer himself for national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s European Championship squad with good performances. Previously, Werner had scored two goals and provided three assists in 13 Premier League games (ten of them from the start).

The attacker is still under contract in Leipzig until 2026. However, he only played a minor role in the first half of the season under coach Marco Rose, scoring two goals in eight games – only twice in the starting line-up. Consequently, Werner made the move to London in the winter.

He finished fifth in England with Spurs and will therefore compete internationally in the Europa League next season
