Champions AC Milan have suffered a major setback. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be available for seven to eight months after undergoing knee surgery.
The Swede underwent an operation in Lyon on Wednesday that had been planned for some time, according to the club. In the process, almost the entire left knee of the 40-year-old attacker was worked on: The anterior cruciate ligament was reconstructed to address the instability, Milan announced on Wednesday. The meniscus was also part of the surgery, which the club described as a “complete success”.
It is another serious procedure for Ibrahimovic after his knee injury in 2017, when he tore the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee. He also had to undergo arthroscopy last summer, but returned to the pitch after around four months. This time, the reigning Italian champions estimate that he will be out for seven to eight months.
Ibra” had contributed eight goals in 23 appearances to the first title in eleven years, in the meantime he had been out of action due to knee and Achilles tendon problems. His current contract expires on 30 June.
