Anders ‘Anders’ Vejrgang is probably the greatest FIFA talent in the world. But the Dane already sees himself on a different level – and has some pithy announcements at the ready.
The anticipation of the community for the first official appearances of the FIFA prodigy was great, since the end of January ‘Anders’ is now 16 years old and can finally participate in EA competitions. At the age of just 15, the Dane had already set a Weekend League world record and humiliated a world champion.
The hype surrounding Vejrgang, who is under contract with RB Leipzig and will soon make his VBL debut for the Saxons, is correspondingly gigantic. Anders’ most recent appearance was in the FIFAe Nations Series qualifier for the Danish eNational team, going unbeaten on his debut.
“Arrogant”, yet pronounced
In the competitive FIFA scene, one question arises: at what level can ‘Anders’ officially perform? Can he already be considered among the world’s best? His own answer is a resounding yes, with the Leipzig native going even further: “I think I’m the best FIFA player in the world right now.”
This statement kicks off the new FIFA TV interview with Vejrgang – one of the rare opportunities to hear the teenager talk about himself. As the interview continues, ‘Anders’ rows back a little. “Isn’t that a stupid thing to say?” he responds to the interview’s demand, continuing, “It’s arrogant. “
Vejrgang highlights his consistency
At the end of just under three minutes, however, ‘Anders’, brimming with self-confidence, can again be seen and heard: “Yes, I am the best FIFA player in the world.” A statement that, given his previous history, will once again meet with massive criticism from the community – but could also be delightfully polarising.
“What sets me apart from the rest of the players? That there is not much difference between my best and my worst FIFA,” Vejrgang explains his merits. The prodigy wants to win tournaments and titles right away, his very big goal: the FIFAe World Cup, of course.
The “expectation to win everything “
‘Anders’ sees the pressure to succeed as being primarily on the best players – and he counts himself among them. But: “It’s more the pressure I put on myself that makes me win tournaments.” According to the pithy battle announcements and self-assessments, this pressure is almost immeasurable.
“I play with the expectation of winning everything,” Vejrgang continues. “If I didn’t pursue that goal, there would be no point for me to play.”
In fact, ‘Anders’ is looking forward to the added stress of the official competitions. In five years he wants to look back on many tournament victories – and of course the World Cup title.
Loud scene echo to be expected
An interview with such statements would be unthinkable in traditional football, no 16-year-old seriously considers himself the best player in the world. In eFootball, however, the clocks tick differently. The performance peak is reached much earlier, as focus and reaction rather than physicality are in the foreground.
The statements will draw a loud echo, several established FIFA professionals will speak out. The self-proclaimed world’s best has further fuelled the discussions about his person and his skills. But he will have to follow up with great deeds in order to avoid ridicule.
