An international for Hamburg: HSV loan out Chakvetadze

Hamburger SV have taken action on the transfer market and loaned out Giorgi Chakvetadze. The 22-year-old arrives from Belgian top club KAA Gent and is expected to strengthen HSV’s attack.

“Giorgi is a flexible offensive player who is technically strong and capable of scoring goals,” said sporting director Michael Mutzel, citing the advantages of the midfielder, who can play both in the centre and on the flanks. “We have been observing his path for some time. With him, we are expanding our options in the offensive area,” Mutzel continued.

2017/18 Chakvetadze left Dinamo Tbilisi at the age of 18 and signed for Gent. Since then he has made 50 appearances (five goals, eight assists) in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. He has also made the step up to the Georgian national team, for which he has now made 13 appearances, scoring five goals in the process.

Lately, however, he didn’t really get going in Gent, so he opted for a change of air and the northern German breeze in Hamburg. “The people in charge gave me a good feeling. Now I hope to settle in quickly and get to know the teammates so I can help the club on the pitch,” Chakvetadze was quoted as saying in a club statement.

The Georgian could make his first appearance for the Reds as early as Friday in the test against FC Midtjylland.
