Altmaier reaches the last sixteen

After a spirited performance at the hard court tournament in Mexico, Daniel Altmaier has reached the last sixteen.

Tennis pro Daniel Altmaier has reached the round of 16 at the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico. The 26-year-old from Kempen defeated the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in his opening match, confirming his good form from recent weeks. The world number 76 had recently reached the quarterfinals in both Rotterdam and Marseille.

Altmaier will now face the eighth-seeded Czech Tomas Machac in the round of 16 at the hard court tournament.

Altmaier with fighting qualities

After losing the first set, Altmaier showed fighting qualities: although he conceded another break at the start of the second set, he immediately took his opponent’s serve in return. Overall, Altmaier served strongly, achieving 15 aces, and after 2 hours and 12 minutes of play, he converted his first match point.

Top star Alexander Zverev is also competing in Acapulco. The top-seeded world number two from Hamburg will face Italian Matteo Arnaldi in his opening match. In Mexico, Zverev wants to gain momentum for the first Masters of the year in Indian Wells after disappointing performances in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.
