Allied-Racing could enter the new GT3 Premium in 2024 – Decision to do so must be made in just over half a year
Allied-Racing is preparing for a possible involvement in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Jan Kasperlik’s racing team, which has already made a name for itself in the ADAC GT Masters this year, can imagine taking advantage of the expansion of the GT3 class in the direction of Le Mans.
As is well known, Kasperlik does not do things by halves when planning an engagement. Appropriate preparation is factored in. “We have announced that we are entering the commercial position phase. That means we are now calculating what such a WEC season in 2024 with all the overseas entries will cost.”
“This decision or budgeting will be completed this year. Then we have time until February/March 2023 to secure the financing. That means the decision on whether we do WEC 2024 will be made in February 2023. ”
The WEC would be an expensive venture for Allied-Racing, which has so far limited its activities to Europe. The travel costs alone make up a multiple. Currently, a GTE-Am season costs around three million euros per car.
The GT3 cars are somewhat cheaper, but many fixed costs, such as travelling, remain the same regardless of the car. Currently, Kasperlik expects costs of two million, but the final sum will depend on the number of races. At the moment, only six races are run per year. This is to be increased again from 2023.
According to Jan Kasperlik, it would take eight to ten months of preparation, i.e. a large part of 2023, to take the step into the WEC. At the moment there is no decision on whether the team will do it.
And it could happen, depending on the availability of the 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 R, that one of the existing GT3 commitments – GT World Challenge (GTWC) Endurance or ADAC GT Masters – would have to be sacrificed. Ultimately, however, a lot also depends on whether one would get a grid spot at all, because the booming hypercar class will take away quite a bit of space in the field.
Allied-Racing has been competing in the ADAC GT Masters since the 2022 season. The team has some recent talent, including Joel Sturm, multiple Porsche Cup race winner Bastian Buus and current GT4 grenade Vincent Andronaco.
