Allegations of match-fixing: Bolivia suspends championship

The Bolivian football federation has suspended the current championship on suspicion of match-fixing. The 1st and 2nd leagues are affected by this.

The Federacion Boliviana de Futbol (FBF) announced that referees, players and club officials were allegedly involved in the unfair practices. Three high-ranking referee officials have already been removed from their posts because of this.

At a meeting of FBF representatives with club officials, 14 of 17 Premier League clubs voted to abandon the current championship after the allegations came to light. Two clubs voted against and one abstained.

The FBF brought charges against the clubs because of the manipulation allegations. The head of the association, Fernando Costa, had recently spoken of a “network of corruption”. In addition, the FBF wants to ask the South American football federation CONMEBOL to set up a flash tournament until the end of December 2023.
