All-clear for Serdar

A moment of shock in Hertha’s last preparation test match against West Bromwich Albion (1:2): Suat Serdar (25) was forced to retire shortly after half-time due to injury. Now there is an all-clear.

After just under 50 minutes, Suat Serdar left the pitch on Saturday afternoon, flanked by team doctor Hi-Un Park and physiotherapist Anne Kaube. The reason: a pelvic contusion he had suffered in the first half against West Bromwich. Without the midfielder, Hertha lost ball security and control of the game – and lost the dress rehearsal for the first round cup match at Eintracht Braunschweig at the English second division club West Bromwich Albion with 1:2. Despite the substitution: The chances that key player Serdar will be able to play in the first match in eight days are intact. According to reports, the pain from the pelvis is radiating into the leg. However, there is apparently no threat of him being sidelined.

“It was triggered by a blow in the first half,” Hertha coach Sandro Schwarz said after the game about Serdar’s injury. “I assume it is nothing dramatic.” That means the start of the season does not appear to be in jeopardy for the man who once played under Schwarz at Mainz in the U19, U23 and professional teams. “Berlin hasn’t even seen the real Serdar yet.” That should change in the new season, Serdar’s second in Berlin.
